Michael Torres is the New Media Manager at Goolarri Media Enterprises, a community owned Indigenous media company based in Broome. After studying art and design in Perth, Michael moved back home to Broome and began an IT traineeship at Goolarri Media but also is a self taught photographer and new media creator . Goolarri Media began as a radio station but it has evolved to incorporate television, music, events and digital media. In addition to helping develop Indigenous and non-Indigenous media and communications in the Kimberley region, Goolarri Media is a registered training organisation, and it creates and produces valuable community events. Part of Michael’s work at Goolarri involves coordinating the photography and digital media content for Kimberly Girl, a hugely successful professional development program for young girls 16-25 year olds in around the Kimberley region. Michael also works as photographer, content creator during Kimberley Girl on the road, graphic and web designer of the project as well.
