John Hartley, AM is Professor of Cultural Science and Director of the Centre for Culture and Technology at Curtin University, Western Australia; and “Serious Brain Power” chair at Cardiff University, Wales. He is the author of 24 books and over 200 papers, translated into more than a dozen languages, including Digital Futures for Cultural and Media Studies (Wiley-Blackwell 2012), The Uses of Digital Literacy (UQP 2009) and Story Circle: Digital Storytelling Around the World (ed., Wiley-Blackwell 2009).

He was co-founder of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Creative Industries & Innovation, ARC Federation Fellow, and Founding Dean of the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT. He is Founding Editor of the International Journal of Cultural Studies (Sage). His current research interests are in the intersections of culture, economics and science. John Hartley is a member of the ARC College, fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities, fellow of the International Communication Association, and life fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He was awarded the Order of Australia in 2009.
